After a woman has finished having children she may encounter a number of concerns such as lost breast volume, stretch marks and excess skin on the abdomen and extra fat accumulated in the hips. A "Mommy Makeover" focuses on all of these concerns.
Your doctor will be able to provide you with the exact procedures that would benefit you, however, a "Mommy Makeover" includes a breast augmentation, a tummy tuck and liposuction of the sides for contouring. Most patients also find it beneficial to do a breast lift and or other areas of liposuction which can all be performed at the same time.
The procedure is usually completed within three hours and the recovery does take about two weeks. Four to six weeks after surgery a patient can resume activities at the gym and lifting.
Prior to your Mommy Makeover, your doctor will discuss your goals and problem areas you may feel you have and assist in setting realistic expectations for your final results. The doctor will have you measure for breast implants and will aid in selecting an ideal implant for you.
After being engorged with milk the breasts end up losing breast tissue during a process called involution. This develops once breast feeding has concluded and hormones from the brain cause the breast milk to dissipate. Due to this process loss of breast tissue usually, leads to smaller and sagging breasts. Breast implants can replace the lost volume and if a certain degree of sagging has occurred a breast lift would be required.
Stretch marks, weakened abdominal muscles and excess skin can all occur to the abdomen. Stretch marks are actually tears in the dermis of the skin that are permanent. Contrary to what you may have heard on infomercials, there is no magic cream that has been proven to work on stretch marks. A number of women may also have an unsightly scar from a c-section. A tummy tuck can rectify each of these issues.

Fat deposits can occur and be very resistant to weight loss and exercise. This is because a woman's body is genetically programmed to hold on to fat stores for feeding an infant. The stores are in the waist and outer thighs for most women. Even after losing all of their baby weight plus more, many women still have pockets of fat in these areas. Liposuction is the perfect treatment for these fat deposits, our doctors provide the best liposuction and mommy makeover procedures and techniques available.

What procedures are usually performed in a Mommy Makeover? The mommy makeover is customized to your needs but usually includes some form of breast reconstruction (either with breast implants and/or a breast lift), a tummy tuck (either a mini or full), and liposuction. These procedures are easily and safely performed in 3-4 hours. The surgery is an outpatient procedure, which means you get to recover at home after the surgery.
What is recovery like after having surgery?Recovery from a mommy makeover is about 2 weeks of staying home and taking it easy. Although you will likely be in bed for only a few days, it is imperative that you give your body adequate time to rest and heal. After 2 weeks, you can go back to a desk job, but any strenuous activity must be avoided for 4-6 weeks. Most people look great after 6 weeks, but the results will continue to improve for up to a year or longer as the swelling subsides.
How soon after having a baby can I have the surgery? You want to make sure your skin has totally recovered from having the baby, and you have lost most of the baby weight gained during your pregnancy. This usually takes 6 months or longer. If you were overweight before your pregnancy, you want to try to lose weight to get to a body mass index below 30 before considering the mommy makeover procedure. Of course, you want to make sure you have a personal consultation with a qualified Plastic Surgeon to make sure you are an ideal candidate for this surgery.
Should I have a Mommy Makeover if I still plan on having more children? If you plan on having more children, it is not the right time to do the tummy tuck portion of this surgery. Although the breast surgery and liposuction are commonly performed on women even before having any children, the tummy tuck should be a "one shot" deal that is done after you are sure you are done with child bearing.
Is it safe to have more than one procedure at a time? |
Our doctors have performed thousands of Mommy Makeover procedures. The key to safety is having it done under monitored general anesthesia (do not attempt any of these procedures under local anesthesia), having a skilled plastic surgeon perform the surgery, being healthy at the time of the procedure, and ensuring adequate true rest time afterwards. Each of these factors should be thoroughly considered during your consultation with you doctor.
Our doctors have the expertise and the professionalism to safely guide you through the process of this incredible, life changing procedure when you are ready.
